چکیده

We here present a natural explanation of the puzzling connection between supernova and gamma-ray burst. An asymmetric supernova explosion produces a mildly relativistic jet and leaves a preferred baryon-free funnel for the fireball formed few days later by the conversion of the newborn neutron star to a strange star, or/and from the differentially rotating strange star. The fireball can be accelerated to ultra-relativistic velocity (Γ0 > 100) due to the very low baryon contamination of the strange star and subsequently produce the γ-ray burst. Most of the conversion energy will finally turn into the kinetic energy of the supernova ejecta, leading to a very luminous supernova similar to SN1998bw. We also show that the late rise in the radio light curve of GRB980425/SN1998bw can be attributed to the energy input from the resultant strange star. subject headings: gamma-ray: bursts — supernova: general — stars: neutron — elementary particles

Accretion-Induced Conversion of High-Velocity Neutron Stars to Strange Stars in Supernovae and Implications for Gamma-Ray Bursts

We present a new model for gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) that are not only associated with supernovae but also have small baryon contamination. In this model, we assume a newborn neutron star to move outward at a kick velocity of ∼ 10 km s in the supernova ejecta. We find that such a neutron star still hypercritically accretes its surrounding supernova matter. Once the stellar mass increases to some ...

A Possible Model for the Supernova/Gamma-Ray Burst Connection

Conversion from neutron stars to strange stars as a possible mechanism of cosmological gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) has been discussed in previous works, although the existence of strange stars is still an open question. On the basis of this mechanism, we here outline an explanation of the connection between supernovae (SNe) and GRBs, which has got increasing evidence recently. An asymmetric but nor...

Are Pulsars Bare Strange Stars?

It is believed that pulsars are neutron stars or strange stars with crusts. However we suggest here that pulsars may be bare strange stars (i.e., strange stars without crust). Due to rapid rotation and strong emission, young strange stars produced in supernova explosions should be bare when they act as radio pulsars. Because of strong magnetic field, two polar-crusts would shield the polar caps...

Gamma Ray Bursts from delayed collapse of neutron stars to quark matter stars

We propose a model to explain how a Gamma Rays Burst can take place days or years after a supernova explosion. Our model is based on the conversion of a pure hadronic star (neutron star) into a star made at least in part of deconfined quark matter. The conversion process can be delayed if the surface tension at the interface between hadronic and deconfined-quark-matter phases is taken into acco...

Effects of color superconductivity on the structure and formation of compact stars

We show that if color superconducting quark matter forms in hybrid or quark stars it is possible to satisfy most of recent observational boundaries on masses and radii of compact stellar objects. An energy of the order of 10 erg is released in the conversion from a (metastable) hadronic star into a (stable) hybrid or quark star in presence of a color superconducting phase. If the conversion occ...
